The tricky part is that "trail boot" isn't really one category — we carry a few, and they're built for different kinds of riding and different terrain. Here's what each one is actually built for, so you're not guessing off the price tag.

Easyboot Back Country
Where the Trail Original is built to be simple, the Back Country is built to go the distance — it's designed for medium to high mileage riding across varied terrain, and it's genuinely used in endurance riding for rides in the 50-to-100-plus-mile range. If the Trail Original is a boot you put on and forget about for a short ride, the Back Country is the one for a horse that's actually working hard for hours at a time.
That difference shows up in the construction. Instead of the Trail Original's single-piece, no-hardware build, the Back Country is built on EasyCare's Glove chassis system — which means the components are interchangeable and replaceable, so a worn part gets swapped instead of the whole boot getting retired. The Comfort Cup Gaiter is soft and thick, built to support and protect the soft tissue around the hoof over a long ride. The rear strap is removable and reversible for either hoof, and a semi-aggressive tread handles mixed terrain better than a smoother sole would. The front shield doubles as a power strap, which is part of what keeps the boot secure at higher mileage instead of working loose.
Two practical notes before you order: EasyCare recommends sizing a half size larger than your horse's measurements indicate for this style specifically — it runs in sizes 00 through 5, in both regular and wide widths — and it's sold individually rather than in pairs, so if you need four, you're ordering four separately. Cavallo Simple Regular Sole
The Cavallo Simple is the most rugged option in this lineup — genuine leather upper over an industrial-grade TPU molded sole, front-fastening Velcro closures that are replaceable on their own rather than requiring a whole new boot, waterproof thread, rustproof hardware, and an all-terrain tread built to resist mud and debris buildup. It's shaped for the natural hoof, so there's no need for extra inserts or shims, it has a molded-in back flap that protects the heel bulbs, and a raised inner rim gives sole relief by taking pressure off the bars, sole, and frog specifically — a level of internal shaping the other two boots in this lineup don't have.
This one is worth knowing about beyond just trail riding — Cavallo markets it as a genuinely multi-purpose boot: daily riding, trail work, turnout, transport, and use over a metal shoe if you need extra protection without pulling it. Cavallo's own materials also list it for comfort with chronic hoof sensitivity and support during rehabilitation from things like laminitis, navicular disease, abscesses, sole bruising, and cracks — if that's the actual situation with your horse, that's a conversation for your vet or farrier first, not something to self-diagnose off a product description. Unlike the Back Country, this one is sold in pairs, not individually.

- Check for rubbing, slipping, or twisting during movement — a boot that's doing any of those isn't sized right, no matter how good it looked on paper.
